Glenn Greenwald is in South America speaking to the Argentinian press. He's fired off a new sensational volley guaranteed to generate headlines, perfectly tailored for a Latin American audience:
"Snowden has enough information to cause harm to the U.S. government in a single minute than any other person has ever had," Greenwald said in an interview in Rio de Janeiro with the Argentinian daily La Nacion.
"The U.S. government should be on its knees every day begging that nothing happen to Snowden, because if something does happen to him, all the information will be revealed and it could be its worst nightmare."
I'm not very sophisticated at international intrigue, but isn't that a juicy invitation to anyone that would love to see the US get a big black eye? Just assassinate Snowden, and everything will be released!
On a more basic level, why is Greenwald in South America giving press conferences to the Latin American press? He seems more Don King than journalist right now, pitching the story of Snowden as a hero that will drive the US government to its knees.
12:27 PM PT: Thanks for the comments clarifying that Greenwald lives in South America. I'm still trying to figure out what role he's playing by doing interviews that seem to sensationalize the facts he's reporting on as a journalist. "The US should be on its knees begging..."???
